We can be Heroes

It was a slow day at work again so I got bored and went blog surfing. I came across this blog, it belonged to a girl called Docile. The reason I say it "belonged to" is because she's passed away from cancer late last month. Her whole blog is dedicated to her fight against cancer, her ups and downs, her pain and suffering, the days she just didn't want to get up and the days the was full of life. Even though she was fighting cancer, all that mattered was that she continued to live a normal life. I was moved in tears to see how a 23 year old girl living a normal life in the midst of cancer.

This girl would have been my hero, seeing how she maintained such positiveness in adversity. How many times I complained and ask God why is He taking me on this journey, when I look at Docile's journey and how she still lived the will of God and walk His path it makes me count my blessing that God put me on this path. I wouldn't have imagined if I had to fight cancer now.

Even now, I look at Paul Tan, he's becomeo a hero to many. I am sure when Paul finishes this journey of his, he'll look back and understand why he's become a stronger person. Because he fought the good fight.

Many a times we depict heroes as a superman or a spiderman. But heroes are made from everyday people fighting everyday battles. Each of us can be a hero to someone. Unknowingly, we already are a hero to someone. People's heroes are normal people who fight everyday battles with optimism and courage as their super power. And it's because God's strength is on us that we can face and fight battles with a positive heart.

I like what Docile's younger sister wrote about her on her own blog. She wrote "I did not loose my sister to cancer but I lost her to God. God found her personality and spirit too wonderful hence healed her body and brought her spirit back". God knows when we've battled enough and when to end the battle. Off course, that doesn't mean God take us back in all cases, but we comfort ourselves knowing God knows. During Docile's last few days, she was weak and doctors wanted her in hospital but she just pretended to be look well so wouldn't have to be admitted because she knew that hospital wasn't a place to spend good quality family time. What an amazing girl!! I have to admit that I teared reading some of her entries.

Wallflowers wrote a song called "We can be heroes". How true is that, we all can be heroes, the question is whether we want to or not?
