I became a sessionist last night. I had the great opportunity to play with Richard Fowler and some of his mates who are very accomplish musicians. Richard Fowler is the Creative Director of Paradise Church, he was formerly music and creative director of City Harvest Church, Singapore and CCC, Oxford Falls. Very accomplish and talented guy. He plays almost 25 types of instruments. He had a concert to showcase his album and asked me to play for him. Being a talented guy, his arrangements were also "talented". These are good opportunities, very good because you get to play along side such a talented group of people but you wonder to take it or not to take because there's so much pressure and so much people will expect. It makes you wonder if you should actually put yourself through so much to learn. God always push us to the limits by giving us new challenges to face and you sometimes decide to give it a pass. Anyway, I took up the challenge and agreed to play for this gig. What made it worse was that I found out on gig night that it was also a live recording. Anyway, I though I played like crap but Richard Fowler smsed and said other wise.. don't know if he was trying to be nice but I'll look on the positive side. One of the back-up vocalist which is my pastor's wife said I played great.. so thank God for that. But I learnt something. I'm not cut out to be a session player. Can't learn songs up fast enough.
Another sad note. One of the few friends that I got to know well here in the last 7 months in Adelaide has left for good back to Hazy Malaysia. Raymond Poh. Gonna miss you man.. even though it was a short 8 months.. but I've learnt a lot from you. God speed.
