my cny so far

Chinese New Year is always a time I look forward to. I look at this picture and I am reminded of the miracle of God. There used to be only one Christian in this picture and now after a span of almost 18 years, everyone in this picture is a Christian and actively serving God. I think my family is the only renegade in FGA while the rest are faithful DUMC members. This is my first Chinese New Year where i literally have to balik kampung because I'm working outstation for the first time, it did help that I came back 1 week before CNY and so I missed those big jams on the road. Maybe I'll join those jams next year to make the "balik kampung" experience complete.

This CNY, I made a discovery. I discovered that I am not the only gambler in the family. I found out that my dad and my aunt were "god of gamblers" in their hay-days. My dad finally admitted why his middle and ring finger on his right hand is a bit "bengkok" because he plays mahjong so much last time that those two fingers would help him feel what mahjong chips he has got. *i wonder if he is taking me on a right* and my aunt on the other is an addicted mahjong player last time that my mom had to literally keep her money for her so that she won't waste it off gambling. And than I asked my dad and aunt to teach me how to play mahjong and my mom suddenly gets up from her seat and takes a ladder to climb up to a very high cupboard and I was wondering what she was getting and lo and behold a 25 year old mahjong set kept in one cupboard at the corner of the house which I never realised after living in this house for God knows how long.

I also learn something in this CNY. Forgetful grandaunts gets more forgetful every year but they get smarter every year. I have two living grandaunt, ripe old age of 91 years. Everytime I visit them, it's like listening to a tape recorder. They tell and repeat the same thing every 5 minutes... "getting married already?", "where are you working", "have i given you an ang pow". So every year, I take advantage of the "have I given you an ang pow already".. everytime they ask me that question, I always answer "No.." and as a result I walk away with 4 ang pows in one visit. This year, both grandaunts got smarter. They record down ang pows going out. So, when they asked that key question "have I given you an ang pow" and when I answered no.. they didn't just give me an ang pow, they answered "let me check my records, forgetful already need to write things down.. always loosing money"... crap this time round i got busted.... need to re-think my strategy for next year's CNY.

Another first for me in this CNY is that we finished all our visitation in 2 days. Previously, we'll always procrastinate and end up still visiting relatives on chap goh meh.

And that's my CNY for this year. I discovered new interesting facts about my family and learned that forgetful grandaunts get smarter.
